Build From Existing Email
Copy a System Email Version
While you cannot edit a published version of a system email, system letter, or campaign email, you can create a new version and copy the content from a published version into your new version/campaign email.
Build From Existing
The Build From Existing option is available for System Emails, System Letters, and Campaign Emails.
For this guide, we will build a new System Email version but you can also build from an existing email when creating a new Campaign Email. The steps are the same.
This function is also available when building new versions of a System Letter.
To get started, navigate to Global Settings cog Global Settings Communications Transaction Acknowledgements System Emails. In this example, we'll build a new Donation Appreciation System Email version by copying an existing one.
Click View Settings & Versions next to the Donation Appreciation system email.
From the Donation Appreciation system email configuration page, click Build New Version.
Select the desired Email Template then click Next.
From the content editor page, click the Build From Existing Email button.
This will open a pop-up window prompting you to select on of the existing emails to copy. Only published emails will be listed here. Find the email version you wish to copy.
Clicking View will open a new browser tab/window From here, you can view the email content and the email details (i.e., Email Sender, Email Bcc, Email Subject).
Click Select to preview and copy the email. At the top of the page, you will be given the option to copy the email you selected or return to the list of existing email versions.
Choosing to copy the email will place the content of the email into your email HTML content editor.
Be sure to re-add any copied tokens using the Insert <></> menu. This is particularly important if you copy the content from a different type of email than the one you are creating, as different tokens are available for different types of emails. Tokens only work properly when they are added by selecting them from the Insert <></> dropdown menu in the email content editor. If a token is not listed, then it's not available for that type of email. If you try to enter the token manually, it will generate an error.
