Introduction
Neon CRM's Import Manager allows you to import data into your system using .xlsx (Excel) or .csv files. The following types of data are available for import:
- Account data, such as names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers
- Donation data, such as donation amounts, dates, and payment methods
- Event registration data, such as event registration dates and amounts (legacy event data only)
- Membership data, such as membership level, cost, start date, and end date
A full list of fields that are available for import in Neon CRM is available in the Neon CRM Import Field Guide.
In addition, the Import Manager allows you to batch update existing Neon CRM accounts. A full list of fields available for account batch update is available here.

Importing Standard and Custom Fields
Both standard and custom fields are available for import using the Import Manager. You may import custom fields for accounts, donations, legacy events, and/or memberships. Custom fields can be pre-configured in Neon CRM before importing data into the field, or you may create the custom during the import process. For more information, please see the Configuring Custom Fields guide here.
Import vs. Account Batch Update
Import refers to using the Import Manager to add new accounts to your Neon CRM system. Account Batch Update refers to using Neon CRM account IDs to update existing account data in your Neon CRM system.
Note that a single spreadsheet cannot be used for both import and account batch updates. If you have a spreadsheet that contains Neon CRM account IDs for existing accounts (to update account data for existing accounts), but the spreadsheet also contains data for new accounts not yet imported into the CRM, you need to separate your data onto two separate spreadsheets (one spreadsheet for the new data for existing CRM accounts and one spreadsheet for data for new accounts) and use the Import Manager twice - once to update existing accounts using account batch update and once to import new accounts.
Import Templates
The Import Manager tool in Neon CRM will provide you with a spreadsheet template. It is highly recommended you use this spreadsheet to ensure a seamless import. After you answer the first few questions in the Import Manager, the system generates a spreadsheet based on your answers. This spreadsheet contains explanatory information about each field and denotes all required information. It is highly recommended you download this spreadsheet and then copy and paste your data onto this spreadsheet.
