Neon has several possible ways for organizations to offer discounted event tickets to some constituents. To determine which one of these options is right for you, consider the following:
This question closely resembles the question, "Which is more important: ensuring no one accesses unearned benefits or ensuring ease of access?"
If you want to prioritize security of your benefits (only members get the member discount), an Event Registration Discount is probably the best fit for you.
If you prioritize ease of access (no signing in, simplest form possible), you may want to use multiple ticket prices in the Default Ticket Group.
-
How?
- If the benefits scale in coordination with the size of the purchase, create a percentage off discount (i.e. all tickets purchased by a member are 10% off, not just the member's ticket). If the benefits are limited to the member's ticket alone (i.e. the member's ticket is half off), create a price off discount.
- Follow this guide on Event Discounts to create the discount.
- Follow these steps to limit the discount to certain types of constituents (i.e. members).
-
Why?
- If constituents are logged in, these benefits apply automatically. The event creator just needs to create the default ticket prices and allow the registration discount to reduce those prices as needed.
- A good fit if constituents are willing to log in.
-
How?
- Create the default admission prices in the default group.
- Define the conditional ticket group, picking out who is eligible. Create the special and default prices in the conditional ticket group.
- Follow this guide to create Conditional Ticket Prices.
-
Why?
- If constituents log in, everyone sees their options. People who meet the criteria of the conditional ticket group can elect to pay full price for themselves and their guests.
- A good fit if 1) you're willing to create all of the ticket options twice, 2) constituents log in, and 3) people who meet the criteria of the conditional ticket group can choose how many of the special ticket to buy (i.e a member can buy 3 "member tickets" for themselves and their guests).
-
- Do not limit the discount to certain types of constituents and distribute the code to just your members by, first, sending a campaign email to all current members, and, secondly, adding it to the New Member Registration System Email.
-
Why?
- This is a good fit if your constituents do not log in to Neon before registering for events.
-
How?
- Create the default and special ticket prices in the default group. Clearly name them and add text to the form asking people to be honest (i.e. "Only members are eligible for the "Member Ticket.")
- Follow this guide to create Tickets in the Default Group.
-
Why?
- This method is as reliable as your constituents.
- This is a good fit if your constituents do not log in to Neon before registering for events and a System Administrator is willing to double check registrations.
