Automatic Start Date for Memberships
Determine if membership is a new enrollment or a renewal membership and select from the following options
There are three dates associated with memberships in Neon CRM:
Transaction Date |
The date the membership was purchased |
Term Start Date |
The date the membership goes into effect |
Term End Date |
The date the membership will expire |
Field Name |
Description |
Fixed Date |
With this option selected, the Term Start Date will always be the same date, regardless of the Transaction Date. It also allows you to set a second fixed date so that a purchased membership's Term Start Date will be delayed until the selected date. |
Use Date of Transaction |
With this option selected, the Transaction Date and Term Start Date will be the same. |
Use Transaction Date or Previous Renewal Date, whichever is later |
With this option selected, Neon will review two dates in order to determine which date to set as the Term Start Date: the Transaction Date or the previous Term End Date. |
Use Previous Renewal Date |
With this option selected, Neon will use their previous membership's Term End Date to set the Term End Date for their renewed membership. |
Automatic Adjustment for End Date
This setting offers two options for Neon CRM to determine the Term End Date for memberships: None or Last day of the month.
Field Name |
Description |
None |
With this option selected, Term End Dates will be set exactly according to the membership's defined term. |
Last Day of the Month |
With this option selected, Term End Dates will be set to the end of the month according to the membership's defined term. Note: This is not recommended when using monthly membership terms. |
Automatic Calculation for Membership Change
Neon CRM can track if members have upgraded or downgraded their memberships. This setting determines how Neon CRM identifies what is considered an upgrade or downgrade.
Field Name |
Description |
Based on amount |
With this option selected, Neon CRM will use membership amounts to determine an upgrade vs. a downgrade. |
Based on rank |
With this option selected, Neon CRM will use membership rank to determine an upgrade vs. a downgrade. Membership Rank is set for each Membership Level. |
Membership Grace Period
When a member logs in to their account to view their membership status, they will see an option to either renew their membership...
...or to join as a new or returning member.
Notice that the second member's Action link says "Join Now" even though they have a past membership history.
By default, when a member's term expires, the member will no longer have access to the "Renew Now" link.
With a grace period set, that "Renew Now" link will continue to appear even after a member's term has expired, for as long as the grace period lasts.
The grace period does not affect any other membership privileges. If a membership has expired but they have not purchased a new membership, even if they are still within the grace period their membership is inactive.
Primary and Sub-Member Renewal
If this feature is turned on, Neon will "prompt" constituents who are renewing their memberships online to renew all of their sub-members, as seen below:
If this setting is turned off, this screen will not display. It will be up to the constituent to view and edit their sub-members after they complete their membership purchase.
More information on group memberships is available in our Household Group Memberships and Company Group Memberships guides.
Add-on Donations (Legacy Forms)
If your Neon CRM subscription includes the Fundraising module, you can add an option to your Legacy membership forms so that registrants can add a donation along with their membership fee:
Donation Entry Type
Field Name |
Description |
Free Entry Donation |
Constituents are able to enter their own donation amount |
Suggested Donation Amounts |
Constituents are given a list of suggested donation amounts |
Donation Field Label
This will change the donation label on your donation form
Donation Type
Field Name |
Description |
Create a new, separate donation entry |
If this option is selected, Neon CRM will create two transactions on the member's account: a donation and a membership registration. The constituent will receive separate acknowledgments for each transaction. |
Combine the donation with the membership fee |
If this option is selected, Neon CRM will create a single membership registration for the full amount paid. |
Note: This Add-On Donation option is also available with Neon CRM's newer membership forms, found under Forms & Pages > Forms. However, with new membership forms the add-on donation can be added/removed inside the Form Builder while customizing each form, and does not need to be configured in Global Settings. More details here.
Membership Status Message
This message appears to constituents when they log in to the constituent login portal. It displays information about their current membership term.
When enabled, the Membership Status Message displays the following information on each page of the Constituent Login Portal.
The message will be collapsed by default, as shown in the example below.
Click Details to see a list of any active current memberships as well as any future membership terms.
Membership Achievement
Membership levels can be achieved with donations or membership fees. Select conditions required to achieve the memberships.
This setting enables the Complimentary Membership feature. Learn more about complimentary membership in the help guide.
