U.S. Clients Accepting Canadian Credit Cards
U.S. clients can accept Canadian credit cards via their system. The charge will appear in your system in US funds. The patron's credit card company will convert the transaction to their own currency at the current exchange rate at the time of transaction.
Canadian Clients Accepting U.S. or other Foreign Credit Cards
There are no issues with Canadian clients accepting U.S. based or other foreign credit cards. If you are using the system in Canada and a US-based credit card is used then they will be charged in Canadian currency and then the amount will get converted into US funds by the US-based financial institution that has issued the credit card.
International Credit Card Transactions
Neon Pay merchant account
Neon Pay can accept international credit cards, but all payment amounts will be processed and paid out in USD
Client's Own Merchant account
Clients who are using their own merchant acct can opt to accept international cc transactions by making some adjustments to their Authorize.net setup. The below instructions were received from Authorize.net support:
Authorize.net (Brandon S): The Address Verification Service (AVS) is used to validate the address that is on file with your customer’s credit card issuer for domestic transactions. However, in most cases, credit card institutions outside of the US do not support AVS. The result is that most international transactions cannot have their addresses verified. This puts these transactions at a higher risk of fraud. This also may result in higher discount rates from your Merchant Service Provider for accepting international transactions. (see note below)
By default, the Authorize.Net gateway rejects these types of transactions. However, these setting can be altered so the majority of international transactions can be processed. To modify your AVS settings, please review the following instructions:
1. Log into your Merchant Interface at https://account.authorize.net
2. Click Settings in the main left side menu.
3. Click Address Verification Service;
4. Unselect the check boxes for AVS Code G, U, and S to accept international credit cards
5. Click Submit to save changes
Note: By changing these settings, you do accept any risk associated with processing international transactions.
Note: Please contact your Merchant Service Provider for questions on credit card discount rates and fraud risk, especially regarding international transactions.
International Credit Card Transactions via PayPal
Clients accepting payments via PayPal can opt to accept payments in foreign currencies by making adjustments to the settings on their PayPal Business account.
