Credit card processing messages & errors
Messages related to credit card processing actually come back from the patron's credit card company, if there is a transaction ID code present. if there is no transaction ID # or authorization # then the transaction did not get sent out of the system. The system may have blocked the input due to some rule violation for input.
"This transaction has been approved" or "AP" - First, if the Credit Card History screen or Credit Card Attempts report shows "This transaction has been approved", then that transaction successfully went into the batch for the day's credit card transactions and will settle overnight with the patron's credit card/bank.
NOTE: While typically there is no issue in processing prepaid credit cards, because the different companies providing them are so numerous and vary greatly in the ways they control the rules and usage of each card, some of these may not work with our system. If a prepaid card cannot be used to pay for a transaction, the card holder either needs to contact the company that issued the card or use another form of payment to complete the transaction.
"The Credit Card Number supplied in the authorization request appears to be invalid." - Try re-entering the card #
"The credit card number is invalid." - same as above
"Failure: ACCT NO ERR-CALL" - Either Account number is non-numeric, or Account number failed mod test
"DECLINE-CV2 FAIL" - Try re-entering the CVV/CVC code
"Credit card expiration date is invalid." - Try re-entering the expiration date in format MM/YY or M/YY
"This transaction has been declined" - Card declined by processor. Seek different form of payment.
"A valid amount is required." - check your input as to the total due.
"The transaction has been declined because of an AVS mismatch. The address provided does not match billing address of cardholder." - Correct the address information with the patron. Their card company is saying via this error that what we are sending is not matching the address they have on file.
"Error: Gateway unexpectedly closed connection" - The gateway is currently down and unable to process transactions. If you are using our merchant acct, please notify us immediately. If using your own merchant acct, please let us know, as it might affect other clients as well, and also contact Authorize.net for information on their outage.
