Learn how to add a custom form field to an existing donation form in this step-by-step guide. When setting up a campaign, there may be times when you have an existing campaign donation form, but you need to edit that form to include a custom field. This help guide will walk you through the process of adding a new custom field to an existing donation form.

Step 1: Create a New Donation Form Custom Field
To create a new donation form custom field:
1. Select the Settings icon in the upper right corner of the page and then select Global Settings.
2. Select Donation under the Custom Fields heading.
3. On the Donation Custom Fields page, select New Custom Field.
4. Enter an Internal Field Name and Public Field Label for the question/prompt in the associated fields.
5. Select the applicable Display Type. This drop-down allows you to select the type of input field you wish to provide the user to enter their response to your custom field question/prompt. The selections are as follows (as seen on the following pages):

One-Line Text - Allows the user to enter a short-answer response, such as a date or free text, to the question or prompt you provide in the Field Name field. When this display type is selected, you have the option to make a selection on the Data Type field drop-down menu (as seen below the red box in the above image on the previous page). This optional field allows you to specify the type of information you wish the user to enter in the one-line text field (for example, an integer, an amount of currency, a date, free text, etc.).

Drop Down - Allows the user to select a response selection option from a drop-down menu.

Checkbox - Allows the user to select one or more response options from a list of pre-determined response selections.

Radio - Allows the user to select one response option from a list of pre-determined response selections.

Multi-Line Text - Allows the user to enter a longer paragraph-style free text response to the question or prompt you provide in the Field Name field. Multi-Line text fields have a character limit of 1024 characters.

File - Allows the user to upload a file as their response to the custom field question or prompt you provide in the Field Name field.

At this point, if you selected Drop Down, Checkbox, or Radio in Step 5, continue with to the next page. If you selected any other option, you may skip the next page and Steps 6 and 7 to continue to Step 8.
If you selected Drop Down, Checkbox, or Radio in Step 5, a new section will appear, the Available Field Options section (as seen in the first image below). In this section, you must specify the responses you wish to include on the applicable drop-down menu option list, checkbox option list, or radio option list, as applicable to your selection. You can reorder the options by selecting the icon on the left side of the field. Drag and drop to reorder.

6. Select the field option display settings by selecting from the following drop-down options. Additionally, select the checkbox below to prevent logged-in constituents from editing this field on legacy forms.
7. When finished, select Create Custom Field.
Your new custom field will now appear on the Donation Custom Fields page. When you create your donation form, this custom field will now be available for you to select and include on your donation form.
Step 2: Add the New Custom Field to an Existing Donation Form
To add the new custom field to an existing donation form:
1. Select Forms & Pages in the navigation menu and then select Forms on the drop-down menu.
2. Select your donation form on the Forms page.
3. Select the Edit pencil icon in the upper right corner of the page.
This opens the Form Builder.
4. Select the Form Editor icon from the left menu icon menu (the second icon from the top).
5. Locate your custom field in the left column and then drag and drop it into the right column. You may then drag the tile up or down in the right column to place the custom field in your desired location on the donation form.
6. Select Publish Changes.
