You are now brought to the Email Builder. As seen in the image below, the Email Builder contains five sections. In the remainder of this guide, let's walk through each of these sections from top to bottom.
Section 1: Email Name & Subject
In this section:
1) Enter an Email Name. This is an internal name and will not be visible to the public.
2) Enter an Email Subject. This is visible to the public. You may insert tokens or emojis, as applicable.
3) If you wish, enter Preview Text. This is an optional field. The text entered in this field will appear in the constituent’s inbox after the subject line.
4) If you wish, select an Email Category from the drop-down menu. This is for internal purposes only if you organize your Email Campaigns into categories in Global Settings.
Once all information in this section has been entered:
5) Select Save.
Section 2: Audience
In this section:
1) Select Select Audience.
2) Select the applicable audience in the Audience drop-down menu. In order for an email audience to appear in this drop-down menu, you must first create an email audience. Refer to Create an Email Audience in the next lesson in this Fast Track, Related Resources, for more information.
Once you have selected your audience:
3) Select Save.
Section 3: Email Link Authentication
By default, the Email Link Authentication is inactive. It is best practice to activate this option to ensure proper email delivery and prevent duplicate account creation.
To activate this option:
1) Select Edit Email Link Authentication.
2) Select the toggle next to the Email Link Authentication selection to the On position.
When this is done:
3) Select Save.
Section 4: Sender
By default, the sender will be your organization’s name with the predetermined sender email you use for external communications.
If you wish to edit this information:
1) Select Edit Sender Name & Email.
2) Enter the applicable Sender Name and Sender Email for the email campaign. Please note: Replies to this email will be sent to the Sender Email address listed here.
Once you make your changes, as needed:
3) Select Save.
Section 5: Content
In this section, you create the actual content of the email.
1) Select Add Content.
On the first page, you must select a template. You may select one of four options, namely, a Neon CRM Template, a Saved Template, a Copy from Existing Emails, or you may Code Your Own email.
For this example guide, let's:
2) Select Neon CRM Templates and use the default of Simple Template.
3) Select Continue.
You are now brought to the email builder. The main menu, represented by icons, for this email builder is located on the left side of the page, as you can see below. The menu options from top to bottom are Email Themes, Content, and Settings. We will view each of these options, starting with the Email Themes.
Email Themes
1) Select your theme from the menu on the left. The default theme is marked with a blue flag. If you wish to create a new theme from scratch or establish a different default theme, please see the Email Themes guide in the next lesson of this Fast Track, Related Resources.
Let’s move to the Content option in the menu, the second icon in the left side menu.
Content
On this page, you may click directly into the header, main content area, and/or, the footer of the email on the right side of the page to add your applicable information.
On the left side of the page, there is a menu on which you may select items to add to the main content section of your email. In the Blocks section, as seen in the image below, you may add a button, an image, a video, a line divider, or a Transaction Summary (a breakdown of a constituent's donations used for tax purposes) to your email. In the Layout options, as seen in the image below, you may choose one of the following layouts for the email content: one column, two columns, an image and text area, and/or two images.
To add an item from the Blocks section and/or the Layout section:
1) Drag and drop the item from the left side of the page onto the right side email. Note: you must place the item between one of the content blocks already on the right side of the page. The "between" spaces are represented by a blue line, as seen below in the small red box on the right side of the page.
Continue to format the email, as applicable. Please note, at any time, you may select the Preview link in the top right corner of the page to preview your email.
Next let’s move to the final menu item in the Email Builder, the Settings page, the third icon in the left side menu.
Settings
In the left column you have many options with which to customize the email settings. First, it is highly recommended you turn on the toggle for the Include Unsubscribe Link.
1) Select the toggle next to Include Unsubscribe Link to the On position, as seen in the image below.
2) Select the toggle to include social media links and add your specific links, if applicable.
3) Personalize the email colors and spacing (if you scroll down the left side of the page), if applicable.
Once all email settings and content have been added:
4) Select Save & Close in the upper right corner.
All sections of the email builder have been completed:
5) Select Schedule and Send in the lower right corner.
On the pop-up that appears, you may choose to send the email immediately or schedule the email to be sent at a later date. Also, it is recommended to select the checkbox next to the Automatically resend to non-openers item. This option will resend the email if a constituent does not open the original email within a certain time period, as designated by you.
Depending on the sending options you choose:
6) Select Send or Schedule.
You can now see your email campaign on the Email Campaigns list page.
Congratulations! You have successfully created an email for an Email Campaign.
