Create Volunteer Roles
Establishing well-defined volunteer roles is an effective strategy for managing your volunteers more efficiently.
A role is assigned to a volunteer based on their specific skills or qualifications. For instance, for an opportunity such as "Volunteer Tutors for a Recurring Weekly Time Slot," only a select group of volunteers may have completed the necessary training and met the required qualifications to serve as tutors. In this case, only those designated as "Tutor" can sign up for this opportunity.
Note: You will be able to assign roles to volunteers, but will not be able to create new roles if you do not have permissions to do so. To manage these settings select Settings Cog > User Groups. Select the Actions button and Edit to change the permissions under Volunteer Module.
1. To create these roles, start by navigating to the Volunteer tab and selecting Volunteer Roles.
2. Select New Volunteer Role.
3. Enter the Role Name, Status Color, and Description. When finished, select Create Volunteer Role.
4. The role should now be listen on the Volunteer Roles list page.
5. Now that the role is created, let's add it to an opportunity. Navigate to the Volunteer tab and select Opportunities from the dropdown menu.
6. Select Create Opportunity.
7. Enter any relevant information on the Opportunity Information page. Then select, Next.
8. Enter any shift information as applicable. Then select Next.
9. Turn on the toggle to assign roles. Choose to apply roles by shifts or by opportunity.
Note: If you did not establish shifts, you will only have the option to apply roles by opportunities.
10. Next, select the roles and the max number of volunteers. When finished, select Create Opportunity.
You can now create a role and add them to an opportunity!
