We know that the ability to customize your organization's membership experience is important. As part of continued membership enhancements based on your feedback, we're excited to share a preview of a new option for membership installment payments.
This setting will allow your members to pay off membership fees over time, rather than requiring complete payment upfront in order to enjoy membership benefits.
We're also making a couple of other changes to membership settings to allow greater flexibility when configuring membership terms.
These updates are planned for release on September 2nd, 2023.

What's Changing
Previously, Neon CRM only considered an account to have an active membership if the total cost of the membership had already been paid.
For example, let's say that your organization offers a year-long membership for a fee of $120. Until now, a member would have needed to submit the full payment of $120 in order to be considered an active member for that time period.
Going forward, if you wanted to recognize this as an annual membership but wish to allow payment over time, you can select the new installments option to allow monthly payments of $10 instead of a one-time payment of $120.
Let's take a look at how installments can be enabled for a membership term.
Setting Up Memberships With Installments
When creating or editing a membership term under Global Settings > Memberships > Levels & Terms, you'll be able to specify whether the membership has a one-time fee or if it will be paid in installments.
If the installments option is selected, the monthly fee will automatically be calculated based on the full membership cost. Additionally, in order to ensure that the fees will continue to be processed for the duration of the membership, auto-renewal will be enabled.
Customized Emails for Installment Payments
We're also adding a condition option to the following system emails, which will allow you to create customized, relevant email versions for members paying through installments:
- Membership Registration
- Membership Renewal Completion Notice
- Membership Auto-Renewal Enabled
- Membership Auto-Renewal Notice
- Membership Auto-Renewal Error Notice
Settings Adjustments: Fixed Dates, Forced Auto-Renew
Based on your feedback, we're also moving a few broader settings into the membership term configuration process to allow greater flexibility when configuring memberships.
Fixed Date settings will still be present under Global Settings > Membership Settings in order to make default selections for newly-created membership terms, but these settings will now also be configurable for each membership term.

Additionally, the "force automatic renewal on front-end forms" setting is moving from the membership level page into the settings page for each membership term. We're also renaming this setting "Require auto-renewal for this membership term".
When we move these settings over, the options you'd previously selected will be applied to the relevant membership terms. You can then choose to edit any terms for which you'd like to have different options selected.
